MySQL is worlds most used Relational Database Management System and its reason to be so famous is that it is Open source and holds General Public License. Its Current Developers are Oracle but initial was company named as MySQL AB which was acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2008 and Sun Microsystems were acquired by Oracle in 2010.Its first release was in 1995 and its version for Windows was released in 1998. It’s written in C and C++ language.

MySQL is used in web application and its Web application maker’s popular choice. MySQL has been reported as performs amazingly in average cases. The MySQL can support higher scale needs and that’s due to its simplicity and easy-to-use design. It is used mostly in small to medium scale servers but it can perform well if deployed in large scale server with multiple processors and rams.
 

NO Graphics!

MySQL is originally shipped without any GUI and to administrator MySQL command line is used and it makes it very hard to manage database, many Front-end Desktop tools are available to enable GUI in MySQL and easily manage tasks and Database via GUI. One new GUI developed by Oracle is called MySQL Workbench and it is Replacement package for MySQL GUI tool bundle, new features in Workbench are that it’s fully functional with Lua and Python, Supports Custom Plug-ins, it has improved SQL editor, data modeling, Database Administration and database migration is best in My SQL Workbench.
 

Deployment

MYSQL can be installed from a binary package or manually from Source Code.  It is used in medium single server Deployments. MySQL can also be deployed on Cloud Computing platforms by Virtual Machine Image or by Using MySQL as Service and managed hosting of MySQL. (Offered by Terremark and Rackspace)

Limited

MySQL has little limitations if we talk freely as it lacks some Implemented Functionality, Triggers are limited to one per action and its truly limited when it comes to hard disk performance.
 

Platforms numbers 24!

MySQL can work on many Different System platforms they are almost 24 in number including Microsoft Windows, NetBSD, OpenBSD, FREEBSD, HP-UX, QNX, SUNOS, Symbian and Mac OS X.
